How to operate the treadmill ?




  •  Plug on the machine
  • Switch on the machine on the top panel
  • Display will count down from 3-2-1 then the machine conveyor belt will start moving
  • First stand on the side rail of the machine and do not stand on the belt while the machine is getting ready. We suggest to step on it for any motorized treadmill after belt starts moving at 2km speed. As the conveyor belt moves to the reverse the step should be taken on the forward line. Keep the whole body free not stiff. Long steps have to be taken in order to match the movement of the conveyor belt. As per your running workout capacity regulate pace accordingly. And increase the speed gradually and not suddenly. Timing of each step will reduce as the speed increases. Speed range of treadmill varies from 1 km/hr to 24km/hr. Brisk walking speed is equal to treadmill speed at no 5 km/hr. Do not use the speed switch at higher speed all of a sudden. To prevent treadmill accident all user must know the pace capacity of the treadmill. Selct your workout progrrame as per your age, weight, health condition. The prescribed workout programme can be followed or mannualy can customise to his own workout plan. In order to derive 2% inclination mode will provide extra cushion on deck. Fitness experts say that incline mode should be applied on a later stage. To workout in a inclination mode a user has to make himself enough fit. Unless a user is fit enough it mayhave impact on spine or back as the body posture matters the most on the treadmill. Do not stop the machine abruptly on a high speed mode. Gradually slow down the speed and incline level while working out on treadmill. Walk at 3-4km/hr speed for 4-5 minutes as cool down exercise. This is good for the user as well as the machine.

How to use treadmill safely!




Whether you are a very new user or habitual user all must follow the user rules. Before starting workout, follow the tips mentioned below:

As the climatic condition vary from place to place, before the very first time use of a brand new treadmill the machine has to be wormed up to the room temperature, which should not be too cold or highly moisture. Though it is an in-door device must be kept in-door only for use or test, in order to avoid premature electronic failure

Loose clothes should not be used during treadmill workout lest they may get caught with any part of the treadmill to result accident. At the same time use comfortable sweat absorb colthes. Elastic gripped full trouser, athletic gears/clothes are mostly recommended, or wear shorts and capries

Barefoot workout is strictly prohibited on a treadmill. It causes injuries. Running or walking on a normal surface may not cause any problem as the surface is still. Human feet sole muscles are naturally made to grip the still surface to walk or run. But treadmill workout is different, as the conveyor belt is moving and the griping function of the foot sole muscle is rapidly over active, possibility of causing damage to feet muscles to a regular user. When treadmill runs, hit is generated form the friction of conveyor belt and deck. Running barefooted on a treadmill may lead to blisters, while the toe of the feet stumps the running belt first. Therefore we suggest wearing a recomonded good shoe for safety reasons. A sports athlatic shoe must be used during treadmill workout. Shoe must be with soft sole, without any spikes, studded, accurate size, with lace preferred, flexibility of shoe sole should not bend in the arch and should bend/flexible in the ball of the feet. Specific treadmill shoes are being manufactured by some companies providing comfortable inbuilt cusioned shoes which enables the user to absorb the body weight of the user. Warm up and cool down method mode on treadmill:

It is advisable to do some worm up exercise like stretching before using a treadmill. New users should refer to the operational manual or take guidance from the trainer. Before concluding each workout session slow down process of the pace has to be adopted. Walking 3-4 km/hr for 4-5 minutes as a cool down exercise has to be done, so that the pulse rate will go down slowly to normal and not suddenly

All treadmills are provided with an emergency safety key. This has to be clipped on the t-shirt/top of the user while using the treadmill, so that in case of emergency slip, trip and fall or for any other reason the safety key on its own will detach from the top panel of the treadmill which will help to protect user to stop the machine at once

Operational knowledge on the switches should be obtained before use of the treadmill

Keep your body and head facing forward while walking or jogging on treadmill

Do not ever try to turn around or look backwards while you are on the running treadmill



Stop workout immidiately if you feel pain, faint or short of breath during workout

How to take care of a treadmill ?

Check before use:
  • Lubrication of deck and belt  periodically
  • Clean the sweat drops at the side rail and handles bars with slightly damp cloth with good quality liquid cleansing solvent after every use
  • Before moving the treadmill from one place to another or cleaning, for sure unplug the treadmill and clean/wipe the surface
  • Power input checkup- it is advisable to use separate electric panel board from the main line with proper load bearing wire cable without any additional extension cord. Proper earthing should be provided to the electric line connection. Voltage input must be 220 volt to 230 volt. It may vary from place to place and as per equipment specification. It is advisable to install a voltage stabilizer on each machine to maintain accurate voltage for better safety of the electronic components attached to the treadmill
  • User has to remember to switch off and unplug the machine when not in use
  • during thunder storm/lightning treadmill should not be used
  • Cover the treadmill after use to protect from dust
  • Dusting/cleaning/periodical servicing should be done once in every 100 hours of use
  • Always use clean separate shoe for treadmill in order to maintain cleanliness, to protect the conveyor belt or deck.

Who all can use treadmill ?

Treadmill is made for human beings. Pets should strictly be prohivited to use these machines. As it is difficult to understand the comfort zone from the health point of view of a pet/animal on a treadmill, it is better to keep them away. If a treadmill is devised for pets/animals then it may be put to use as per advice of the veterinary.


All age group can walk/run on a treadmill but we suggest infant and children up to 12 years should not use a treadmill. Children above 12 years of age may use a treadmill under an adult supervision. Old age people also be considered subject to their health condition as per the advise of a physician.

What is the average life span of a treadmill?

        Like any other machine treadmill’s longevity depends on it brand, make and maintenance. A good branded treadmill manufacturer conveys the quality of the components fitted in the treadmill for long lasting in order to market their products. Some manufacturers who do not have provision to make quality components, and they sell the products at lower price in market. Hence we should not expect a durable product from such manufactures. While buying a treadmill, do ensure from the seller facilities and provision of after sales service and periodical maintenance. We suggest 3-4 times general service should be provided to the machine in a year and also number services depend on the hours of use of machine.
Performance and longevity also depends on the range of the treadmill. Higher range treadmills even last for longer period with high their capacity motors, thick high quality conveyor belt, roller bearing, and deck, solid and strong frame etc will help to last long with higher technology. The average life span of a home/ domestic use treadmill may lasts 3,000-10,000 hours approx. Commercial grade treadmill may work for 30,000 hours or more approx. After the above prescribed hours of running for both types of treadmill the frequency of services require to be done at shorter intervals and a constant vigil has to keep on the machines

How to select to buy a treadmill ?

A) First of all you should be clear on you your basic need of your treadmill. Select accordingly whether for home use or for commercial purpose.
B) Budget- users must select this equipment as per there requirement and budget. It is advisable to opt for hi end treadmill where all advanced features are available, if budget is not a constrain. Low budget treadmills may not offer appropriate running area size which may not be comfortable for workout. These have low power motor and components with less price which may not last long or may not perform well. People prefer 20”X 58” running deck sizes for home use treadmill is and 
20”X 60” for commercial use.
C) Availability
When you think to own a treadmill you must know your requirement like for whom and how many number of users will use the treadmill like user weight, users age, and users genders. If case of a single user the machine for a home use grade, if the number of users are more, it’s advisable to avail semi commercial equipment. For running the machine continuously for a longer period at a stretch, use commercial treadmills only. These treadmills are made for heavy load bearing and can run for hours together. We should use a treadmill for exercise. Using of treadmill helps to workout for burning calories and maintaing health and fitness. Treadmill is all weather exercise machines which can be used on users will and time. In today's busy schedule we do not get time and place for workout.          Swimming and running are considered to be mother of all exercise. “Swimming” though has no adverse impact on body, has its limitations too like availability of clean water ponds, swimming pools and safe rivers. Swimming as an exercise can not be done every where. Clean water swimming protects our skin and vital organs of our body. How many types of treadmills are used?


Manual /Motorised:
Manual treadmill: in a manual treadmill user can workout on it by pushing the conveyor belt with his/her feet. Again there are two types of manual treadmills. One is with several rollers on which the conveyor belt moves and other with a particle board or ply board on which the conveyor belt moves. We can say it is a self driven workout treadmill where the user has to run the machine with his own effort. Features available with these type of treadmills are speed control, distance measurement, pulse rate measurement and calorie burnt data. These treadmill are most economic models available in market where the manufacturing cost is nominal and during use consumption of electricity does not arise.


Motorised treadmill: 
it is an automatic machine where the conveyor belt is moved by the motor. Here to workout on this treadmill the user need not require any self driven effort to run the machine. Here is an important question to be answered. Whether workout on a manual treadmill is better than using a mortised one? Answer: researchers and fitness experts indicated that regular use of manual treadmill for a longer period may cause possibility of damaging to the valuable vital body parts like spine, hip, knee, and ankle joints. To workout on a manual treadmill your body posture has to stoop/tilt to front to run the machine for workout with users own feet which may cause hazards.

There are generally two types of motor used in treadmill.

History of treadmill ?

The first consumer treadmill for home use was developed by william staub a mechanical engineer at his plant in Clifton New Jersey and later moved to little false Newjersy. 

The four runner of exercise treadmill was designed to diagnose heart and lungs disease and invented by Dr. Robert Bruce and Wayne Quinton at university of Washington in 1952. Dr. Kenneth h cooper’s research on the benefits of aerobic exercise published in 1968 provided a medical argument to support commercial development of the treadmill and exercise bike.
